Arvind Kejriwal, K Kavitha to remain in Tihar Jail, court extends custody till May 7

On Tuesday, a Delhi court extended judicial custody of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and BRS leader, K Kavitha till May 7 in the money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam case.

Both were individually presented before the bench on Tuesday using video conferencing.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Court passed the orders upon the expiry of the previously granted judicial custody.

Kejriwal is named as the “kingpin and the key conspirator” of the Delhi excise policy scam in collusion with other ministers of the Delhi government, AAP leaders, and other persons.

ED arrested Kejriwal on March 21 after questioning him for over two hours at his official residence in Delhi.

Earlier on Monday, the Delhi High Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking extraordinary interim bail for Kejriwal in all the criminal cases registered against him by the central agencies, till the completion of his tenure or the trials, whichever ends earlier. The Court also imposed a fine of Rs.75,000 on the petitioner.

  1. Longer they stay behind bars less likely will they be will inclined to go back. In times to come the support base will start eroding on the streets as well. For a common man it is difficult to imagine, that rich, powerful people of resources and contacts remain behind bars without reasonable evidence ,despite recourse to the highest court though the top lawyers reputed for waking up the courts in the middle of night and demanding to form benches.
