Over one crore youth joined the anti-drug pledge as India launched one of its biggest awareness campaigns

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan‘, a nationwide campaign aimed at mobilising young Indians against substance abuse and transforming the fight against drugs into a mass public movement.

Launched via video conferencing, the initiative marks the beginning of a 100-week Jan Bhagidari campaign, with weekly awareness and community-driven activities planned across the country to promote a drug-free society.

PM calls on youth to lead the movement

Addressing participants, the Prime Minister described India‘s youth as the driving force behind the vision of Viksit Bharat and urged them to stay physically and mentally fit while rejecting substance abuse.

He stressed that drugs destroy families, careers and society, warning that narcotics are also being used by hostile forces to weaken the nation’s future. PM Modi called upon parents, teachers and the wider community to join hands in protecting young people from addiction.

One crore youth join anti-drug pledge

According to the government, more than one crore young people participated in the nationwide Nasha Mukti Pledge, with programmes organised across nearly 10,000 locations.

The campaign has brought together MY Bharat volunteers, National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, schools, colleges, universities, youth clubs, NGOs, industry bodies and more than 125 spiritual organisations in what is being described as one of India’s largest youth-led anti-drug initiatives.

    100 weeks of nationwide activities

Unlike a conventional awareness drive, the campaign has been designed as a sustained public movement. Every Sunday over the next 100 weeks, activities such as sports competitions, walkathons, meditation sessions, street plays, cultural programmes, awareness drives, art competitions and community engagement events will be organised across the country.

The objective is to encourage healthy lifestyles, strengthen community participation and inspire young people to become ambassadors of positive social change.

Part of the Viksit Bharat vision

The government said the campaign aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, seeking to create a healthier and more productive generation capable of contributing to India’s long-term development goals.

Officials said outstanding volunteers and organisations participating in the campaign will be recognised at different milestones during the 100-week initiative.
