Shinde camp says will continue to claim party & symbol;, Thackeray to move SC

As per anticipation by many political analysts, the Election Commission, on Saturday, passed an interim order announcing that neither of the two groups — Shinde and Uddhav factions, shall be permitted to use the symbol ‘bow & arrow‘, reserved for ‘Shiv Sena’. The poll body passed an interim order, saying in the upcoming Andheri East bypoll neither of the two groups shall be permitted to use the ‘bow and arrow’ symbol, reserved for ‘Shiv Sena’.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led camp called the interim order temporary and said that they will continue to claim the party as well as the poll symbol. Meanwhile, the Thackeray faction has decided to move the Supreme Court on Monday.

Shinde camp leader Gulabrao Patil slammed Uddhav Thackeray and said, “First you lost Shiv Sena, then you lost MPs and MLAs and now you have lost the party’s poll symbol. You have lost the ‘bow & arrow’ that Balasaheb had kept for 50-60 years. You must give answers to all the workers on why you did this. You did nothing for the party. You did nothing to handle the party.”

In its order, the EC also directed both groups to choose a new election symbol and a new name for the upcoming bye-elections. The EC directed both the camps to furnish by October 10 the names of their groups by which they may be recognized by the Commission and to give three options in order of preference, any one of which may be approved by the Commission.

The Election Commission’s interim order read, “Neither of the two groups led by Eknath Shinde and the other led by Uddha Thackeray shall be permitted to use the name of the party, Shiv Sena. Neither of the two groups shall also be permitted to use the symbol ‘bow and arrow’, reserved for Shiv Sena.”

“Both the groups shall be known by such names as they may choose for their respective groups, including, if they so desire, linkage with their parent party Shiv Sena. Both the groups shall also be allotted such different symbols as they may choose from the list of free symbols notified by the Election Commission for the purposes of the current bye-elections,” the ED’s order reads.

The poll body also asked the two rival groups to furnish the symbols which may be allotted to the candidates set up, if any, by the respective groups. “They may indicate the names of three free symbols, in the order of their preference, any one of which may be allotted to their candidates by the Commission,” the order read.
