Delhi Police have registered an FIR against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and other party leaders over disturbance at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, police sources said on Monday. The case follows a complaint by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).

    What the complaint says

The complaint, filed on Sunday by DSGMC president Harmeet Singh Kalka, names Kejriwal along with AAP leaders and MLAs. It alleges that AAP workers and supporters entered the gurdwara premises in a coordinated manner, raised political slogans and created chaos, trying to use the sanctity of “Guru Ghar” for political activity.

The DSGMC has also accused AAP leaders and MLAs of putting out videos on social media that gave a “distorted version” of what happened and put the blame on the gurdwara management. It has asked the police to identify those involved, preserve the relevant evidence and find out who organised and directed the protest.

Bangla Sahib Gurdwara chairman Bhupinder Singh Bhullar said he, Kalka and other DSGMC members met the Deputy Commissioner of Police on Sunday and submitted the complaint.

    How the incident unfolded

A large number of protesters had gathered on the gurdwara premises on Saturday while trying to reach Jantar Mantar to join the protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They did not manage to get there, as police detained them.

Delhi Police had earlier put out a statement on a video circulating on social media that alleged police personnel had entered the gurdwara.

    Probe underway

Police sources said an investigation has begun and that the footage submitted by the complainant is being examined to establish the sequence of events.
