Official Secrets Act Case Registered Against Army Officer’s Wife in Jammu
Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against the wife of a serving Indian Army officer on suspicion of collecting sensitive information related to national security and sharing it with foreign intelligence operatives, including individuals allegedly linked to China.
The woman was detained at the Jammu Railway station last week, and later she was arrested.
An FIR No. 290/2026 was registered on Friday at Gandhi Nagar Police Station in Jammu under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, specifically provisions related to spying and actions prejudicial to the safety or interests of the State, communications with foreign agents, and wrongful communication or handling of protected information, along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those covering acts endangering the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India and criminal conspiracy.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of central intelligence agency personnel and police intercepted the woman at Jammu Tawi railway station on October 14 while she was reportedly preparing to board a train to Pathankot.
She was taken for questioning at a nearby military station, and her mobile phone was seized for forensic analysis.
Hailing from Telangana, the wife of an army officer completed a Master of Advanced Studies in European and International Governance in Geneva in 2022, earned a master’s in International Relations from a Bengaluru university in 2021, undertook an IT internship with the United Nations in 2023, and has worked as a freelance researcher.
She also did an online internship with the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) and has authored research articles. She married a serving Army officer (rank of Major) in October 2023.
Her husband is a middle-rung officer not deployed in the Jammu province, according to sources.
Investigators are examining allegations that Chinese operatives, posing as academicians, contacted her and gradually directed her freelance research toward topics of strategic and defence significance — including Line of Control dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir, critical infrastructure projects in Arunachal Pradesh, drone deployment, India-China relations, defence pacts, and related subjects. Preliminary data from her phone reportedly showed documents on sensitive subjects. Officials are also looking into her past interactions with foreign nationals, including contacts via social media and messaging apps.
A comprehensive forensic examination of digital devices and financial transactions is underway.
