An airport source said the alert was a hijacking rumour, not a bomb threat
An Air India Dreamliner flying from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur after a security alert, and landed safely at Jaipur International Airport.
What happened
Flight AI 2030 was diverted as it approached Indian airspace, with air traffic control and security agencies alerted. Early reports described the alert as a bomb threat. An airport source later said it was a hijacking rumour and not a bomb threat.
Checks after landing
After landing, the aircraft was taken to an isolation bay. Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force, local police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad went through the plane and the passengers’ luggage. All passengers and crew were safely evacuated to a holding area in the airport terminal.
Source of the alert unclear
At the time of reporting, neither Air India nor airport authorities had put out an official statement on the nature or source of the alert.
