Disturbing videos from childcare centre inside an IT company campus trigger police probe; five women booked under Juvenile Justice Act
Five women working at a daycare centre inside an IT company campus in Bengaluru have been booked after disturbing videos allegedly showing toddlers being physically abused and subjected to degrading treatment surfaced online, police said on Wednesday.
The alleged incidents took place at a childcare facility in Brookefield, where employees leave their young children while at work. The case came to light after videos purportedly showing the abuse circulated on WhatsApp and were subsequently reported to the Child Helpline, prompting immediate police intervention.
According to investigators, the footage appears to show toddlers crying while being physically assaulted and intimidated by caregivers. Police are now questioning the accused and examining the authenticity of the videos, including when the incidents occurred and whether more children may have been subjected to similar abuse.
Shocking allegations emerge
The complaint alleges that children between the ages of two and three were subjected to multiple forms of abuse by the caregivers.
According to police, the videos purportedly show the women threatening toddlers whenever they cried or became restless.
Investigators are also examining allegations that the children were placed inside a front-loading washing machine, made to sit inside a western-style toilet, sprayed with water in their mouths using a toilet jet spray, locked inside bathrooms, and threatened into remaining silent.
Authorities are working to verify each allegation as part of the ongoing investigation.
Case registered, probe underway
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against the five women under relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
A senior police officer said the accused are currently being questioned while investigators continue to analyse the videos, identify all children who may have been affected, and gather additional evidence.
No arrests have been made so far. Police said further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
