Investigations have been launched into alleged syringe attacks and sexual assault complaints after widespread disturbances
France‘s annual Fete de la Musique festival, which draws millions of participants to streets and public spaces across the country, was overshadowed by reports of violence, assault allegations and widespread disorder, prompting a major security response and hundreds of arrests.
Authorities said disturbances were reported in several cities during the nationwide celebration, with Paris witnessing some of the most serious incidents as large crowds gathered for the event.
Syringe attack allegations investigated
One of the most alarming developments involved reports from several women who claimed they were pricked with syringes while attending the festival.
French authorities have launched investigations into the allegations to determine whether any substances were injected and to establish the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
According to reports, some victims required medical treatment, while one woman in central Paris was reportedly hospitalised after losing consciousness following an alleged syringe attack.
Sexual assault complaints filed
Authorities are also examining a number of sexual assault complaints reported during the celebrations.
Investigators have not released detailed information about the cases, but officials confirmed that multiple complaints were received during the festival. The inquiries remain ongoing.
Disorder in Paris
Several areas of Paris witnessed scenes of unrest as crowds packed streets and public squares for concerts and performances.
Witnesses reported clashes and fights breaking out in some locations, causing panic among festival-goers. Concerns were also raised about overcrowding, with some attendees describing difficulties moving through densely packed streets.
Emergency services were deployed to respond to incidents as they unfolded throughout the evening.

Hundreds arrested nationwide
French police said hundreds of people were detained across the country as authorities worked to restore order.
A large security operation was put in place for the festival, involving police officers, firefighters, surveillance drones and helicopters. Officials said the measures were intended to manage crowd safety and respond rapidly to emergencies.
The Fete de la Musique, one of France’s most popular annual cultural events, is traditionally marked by free concerts and public performances. However, this year’s celebrations have sparked fresh debate over public safety and crowd management at large-scale gatherings.
