“Geography or history” remark draws attention
The Army chief delivered a blunt message during an interaction in Delhi
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedion Saturday delivered a sharp warning to Pakistan, saying Islamabad must decide whether it wants to remain part of “geography or history” if it continues to shelter and support terrorists operating against India.
The strong remarks came during an interactive session titled ‘Sena Samwad’ hosted by ‘Uniform Unveiled’ at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi.
Responding to a question on how India would react if circumstances similar to those that triggered Operation Sindoor emerged again, General Dwivedi reiterated India’s uncompromising position on terrorism.
“If Pakistan continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India, then they have to decide whether they want to be part of geography or history or not,” the Army chief said.
Army chief reiterates India’s tough stand
Though brief, the Army chief’s statement carried a clear and forceful message aimed at Pakistan over continued cross-border terrorism and support to terror groups targeting India.
His remarks came just days after India and the armed forces marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor — the large-scale military operation launched in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack last year.
Operation Sindoor began in the early hours of May 7, when Indian forces carried out precision strikes on multiple terror infrastructure sites located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Operation Sindoor followed Pahalgam terror attack
The operation was launched after the Pahalgam terror attack triggered a major escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Following India’s strikes, Pakistan initiated retaliatory offensives, prompting further counter-operations by Indian forces under the broader framework of Operation Sindoor.
The military confrontation between India and Pakistan continued for nearly 88 hours before both sides reached an understanding on the evening of May 10, bringing hostilities to a halt.
Strong message against terrorism
General Dwivedi’s remarks reinforce India’s continued emphasis on zero tolerance towards terrorism and underline the military’s readiness to respond decisively to future provocations.
The Army chief’s warning also comes amid growing focus on national security and India’s evolving military doctrine following Operation Sindoor and the heightened tensions witnessed last year.
