Agni 5: The most advanced missile in the Agni series with a strike range of over 5000 km

On Thursday, India successfully conducted the night trials of the nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni 5 in Odisha, a Defence official said. The missile has a very high degree of accuracy to hit targets.

Agni-5 is the most advanced missile in the Agni series with a strike range of over 5000 km. Apart from Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) Agni 5, the Indian armory of the Agni series includes Agni 1 with a 700 km range, Agni 2 with a 2,000 km range, Agni 3 and Agni 4 with a 2500 km to more than 3500 km range.

It has a height of 17 meters and it is capable of carrying a 1.5-tonne warhead. The missile is capable of striking targets at ranges up to 5,000 km with a very high degree of accuracy. The range of the missile can be further increased based on the results of the testing; the official added.

The official said the test was conducted in an attempt to validate advanced technologies and new equipment on the missile which weighs lesser now. The launch was carried out for a predetermined range and validated all operational parameters of the system, the official added.

“The trial has proved the capability to enhance the range of the Agni 5 missile if required,” the Defence sources claimed.
