India poised for naval strike on Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, says Navy Chief

India was just “minutes away” from launching a naval strike on Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi said, highlighting the Indian Navy’s aggressive posture during the 2025 military operation.

Speaking at a Naval Investiture Ceremony, the Navy chief said the force maintained high operational readiness throughout the conflict.

“It is not a hidden fact anymore that we were just minutes away from striking Pakistan from sea, when they requested the stoppage of kinetic actions,” he said.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 civilian lives. India initiated the operation to target terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

More than 100 terrorists were reportedly killed during the operation, which led to a brief but intense military standoff between India and Pakistan before both sides announced a cessation of hostilities on May 10.

Admiral Tripathi said the Navy’s swift and decisive actions during the operation boosted national confidence and demonstrated its combat readiness.

“Through swift and resolute actions during the Op Sindoor, the Indian Navy reinforced the nation’s confidence and trust in its capabilities,” he said.

He also noted that the Navy showcased its operational strength to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a 17-hour overnight embarkation on the western seaboard.

Earlier, the Navy chief had stated that India’s strong maritime posture forced the Pakistan Navy to remain close to its ports along the Makran coast. He added that operational preparedness linked to the mission continues.
