Police say Anshul Kuncha was shot in the head after delivering pizzas to a vacant apartment in North Philadelphia
A 28-year-old Indian national from Hyderabad was shot dead while working as a pizza delivery driver in Philadelphia, United States, prompting an ongoing police investigation into the fatal incident.
The victim, identified as Anshul Kuncha, was reportedly delivering an order to the Raymond Rosen Homes housing complex in North Philadelphia when the shooting occurred around midnight on Friday.
According to police, Kuncha had arrived at the location on the 2300 block of Edgley Street to deliver pizzas. Shortly after completing the delivery, he was shot in the head.
CCTV captures final moments
Responding officers found Kuncha critically injured at the scene. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where doctors later pronounced him dead at around 1 am.
Investigators said the delivery had been made to a vacant apartment unit within the housing complex.
CCTV footage obtained from the Philadelphia Housing Authority reportedly shows Kuncha arriving at the property while two individuals dressed in dark clothing and carrying a backpack appeared to be following him.
Police believe the attackers were standing very close to the victim when the shooting took place.
Evidence recovered from scene
During the investigation, officers recovered three spent shell casings from the scene. Kuncha’s vehicle was also located nearby.
Authorities said a delivery bag and three pizza boxes were found inside the vacant apartment unit where the order had been delivered.
As of now, no arrests have been made and investigators are continuing to pursue leads.
“He was lying on the ground unresponsive, bleeding heavily with a gunshot wound to his head,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small was quoted as saying by local media reports.
“From looking at the pizza boxes, we were able to identify the pizza shop,” he added.
