Indian national killed in Jordan while trying to cross into Israel

A 47-year-old Indian man, identified as Thomas Gabriel Perera from Thumba, Kerala, was allegedly shot dead by Jordanian soldiers while attempting to enter Israel illegally, sources reported. The incident occurred on February 10 when Perera attempted to enter Israel after arriving in Jordan on a visitor visa.

Indian Embassy confirms the death

The Indian Embassy in Jordan confirmed the tragic death and stated that it is in contact with Perera’s family. The embassy is also coordinating with Jordanian authorities to facilitate the transportation of his mortal remains to India.

“The Embassy is in touch with the family of the deceased and is working closely with Jordanian authorities for transportation of mortal remains of the deceased,” the Embassy posted on X.

Survivor repatriated to India

Perera was accompanied by his relative, Edison, a resident of Menamkulam, who also attempted to cross into Israel but was shot and survived. Edison received medical treatment before being repatriated to India.

Incident amid rising tensions in the region

The incident took place amid escalating violence in the West Bank and ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Security measures along the borders have been heightened due to the volatile situation in the region.

Indian authorities are continuing to monitor the case and are working with Jordanian officials for further updates.
