Hyderabad student killed while working part-time in Dallas

A 27-year-old Indian student was shot dead while working part-time at a gas station in Dallas, Texas, late Friday night, officials and family members said.

The victim, identified as Chandrashekar Pole, hailed from Hyderabad and had moved to the United States in 2023 to pursue a master’s degree in dental surgery after completing his bachelor’s in dental sciences in India.

According to reports, Pole was on his part-time shift at the gas station when an unidentified gunman opened fire. Local police are yet to share details of the motive behind the attack.

News of his death has left his family in Hyderabad devastated. Senior leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), including MLA Sudhir Reddy and former minister T Harish Rao, visited the family’s residence to offer condolences.

Calling the killing “tragic,” Harish Rao urged the government to act swiftly to repatriate Pole’s body.

“The pain that the parents are going through, knowing that their son, who they believed would reach great heights, is no more, is heart-wrenching to witness. On behalf of BRS, we demand that the state government take initiative and make efforts to bring Chandra Shekhar’s mortal remains to his hometown as quickly as possible,” Rao said in a post online.

Family members have also appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs to expedite formalities so that the student’s remains can be brought back to Hyderabad for the last rites.
