Son murders parents, chops bodies to hide crime

The search for a missing elderly couple in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district has led police to uncover a gruesome double murder, with the couple’s son arrested for allegedly killing them following a family dispute.

Police said Ambesh, an engineer, has confessed to murdering his parents — Shyam Bahadur (62) and Babita (60) — chopping their bodies into pieces and dumping them in a nearby river to destroy evidence.

The case came to light after a missing persons complaint was filed on December 13 by Ambesh’s sister, Vandana, at the Zafarabad police station. She reported that her parents and brother had been untraceable for several days.

According to police, Vandana told investigators that Ambesh had called her on December 8, claiming their parents had left home after an argument and that he was searching for them. Soon after the call, Ambesh’s phone was switched off, raising suspicion.

Police tracked him down nearly a week later. During questioning, Ambesh initially attempted to mislead investigators but eventually broke down and confessed to the crime, officials said.

    Dispute over marriage and money

Shyam Bahadur, a retired Railway employee, and Babita lived in Jaunpur with their family. Police said Ambesh had married a Muslim woman about five years ago, a union his parents reportedly opposed. The couple later decided to separate, and Ambesh required Rs 5 lakh to pay alimony.

On December 8, Ambesh allegedly asked his father for financial help, which led to a heated argument. Police said Ambesh struck his mother with a heavy grinding stone, following which he attacked his father when he attempted to raise an alarm. Both parents died from head injuries.

    Attempt to destroy evidence

After the killings, Ambesh allegedly attempted to dispose of the bodies. Unable to find a large bag, he used a saw to dismember the bodies into several pieces, packed them into sacks and transported them in a car before dumping them into a river at dawn.

He later contacted his sister with a false account of his parents’ disappearance and switched off his phone, police said.

On December 14, Ambesh returned to Jaunpur, where relatives confronted him about his parents. Police were alerted and he was taken into custody.

Investigators have recovered parts of Shyam Bahadur’s body, the saw used in the crime and the grinding stone believed to be the murder weapon. A team of divers has been deployed to recover the remaining body parts from the river.

Additional Superintendent of Police Ayush Srivastava said further investigation is underway, and more recoveries are expected.
