EAM Jaishnkar Strongly condemns the attack on Gurdwara Karte Parwan by ISIS-K terrorists
On Saturday morning Islamic States terrorists have been indiscriminately firing inside a Gurdwara in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital. At least two people have been killed and the fate of the several others remains unknown as they were taken to hospital by emergency workers.
When the attackers entered the premises at least 25-30 Afghan Hindus and Sikhs were inside the gurdwara for morning prayers. At least 10-15 worshippers managed to flee.
As per available information, a security guard at the Gurudwara Karte Parwan was shot and killed in the morning attack that is being blamed on the Islamic State terrorists. Another man has also been confirmed dead by the local community. He was killed inside his room at Gurdwara Karte Parwan.
There was a retaliation from the security guards of the temple premises who fired rounds of bullets but the latest report suggests that a large part of the temple complex was gutted in a fire that began after an exchange between the attackers and the security guards.
Earlier in the day, Afghanistan-origin Sikhs living in the national capital, said they received calls from Gurnam Singh, president of Gurdwara Karte Parwan, informing them about the attack.
The attack comes days after the media wing of the Islamic States Khorasan Province, an affiliate of the terror outfit Islamic State, released a video threatening to repeat the 2020 Gurdwara attack. Though the terror outfit also comprises Sunni Pashtuns, they are sworn enemies of the ruling Taliban. They have been responsible for the killings of hundreds of members of minority communities, including Hazaras, Tajiks, Uzbeks, and Sikhs.
Meanwhile, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishnkar condemned the “cowardly attack” on Gurdwara Karte Parwan by ISIS-K terrorists earlier today. In a Twitter statement. he said that the ministry has been “closely monitoring” the overall situation in Kabul. “Our first and foremost concern is for the welfare of the community,” he added.
The cowardly attack on Gurudwara Karte Parwan should be condemned in the strongest terms by all.
We have been closely monitoring developments since the news of the attack was received. Our first and foremost concern is for the welfare of the community. https://t.co/ocfuY0RBhN
