Four Naga civilians were reportedly killed and another injured after armed assailants allegedly ambushed a vehicle along the Imphal-Tamei Road in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Thursday morning. One more person remains missing following the attack.

The incident reportedly took place around 8:30 am between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga along the IT Road, a key route used by Naga communities in the region. The deceased have been identified as Tadsongbou Ringkangmai, founder and principal of Right Path School, Mariakdibou Wijunamai, Japou MK and Anil Wijunamai.

Gaikamang Ringkangmai was injured, while Wisobou Charenamai, chairman of the Chawangkining Village Authority, was reported missing.

The identities of the attackers and the exact motive behind the ambush have not yet been officially established. Security concerns have intensified in Kangpokpi, which has remained affected by recurring ethnic violence since clashes erupted across Manipur in May 2023.
