Lawrence Bishnoi gang claims killing of Indian-origin industrialist in Canada, linked to firing at Punjabi singer’s house

Indian-origin businessman shot dead in British Columbia; Bishnoi gang claims responsibility

Bishnoi gang’s Canadian network under police radar after twin attacks

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, one of India’s most notorious criminal networks, has once again come under global scrutiny after claiming responsibility for two violent incidents in Canada — the killing of an Indian-origin industrialist and a firing outside a Punjabi singer’s home.

According to Canadian media reports, 68-year-old Darshan Singh Sahasi, a prominent Abbotsford-based businessman, was shot dead outside his residence in British Columbia on Monday morning. The assailant reportedly waited for Sahasi to approach his car before opening fire and fleeing the scene. Police and emergency responders arrived within minutes but were unable to save him.

A social media post attributed to Goldie Dhillon, a member of the Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the murder, alleging that Sahasi was involved in a drug business and had refused to pay extortion money. Following the incident, three nearby schools were placed under temporary lockdown as a precaution.

Sahasi, who immigrated to Canada in 1991, was the president of Canam International, a major textile recycling firm. Known for his philanthropy and contributions to the local Punjabi community, his death has sparked widespread grief and anger among Indian immigrants in Canada. Community leaders have called the killing a “wake-up call” for law enforcement to act against organized criminal networks targeting Indian-origin residents.

In another post, the same gang member also claimed responsibility for gunfire outside Punjabi singer Channi Nattan’s home. The message warned artists against working with fellow musician Sardar Khera, suggesting internal rivalries within the Punjabi entertainment industry.

The twin attacks came just a day after Rajasthan Police arrested Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga, an active member of the Bishnoi gang, in the United States.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has been designated as a terrorist organisation in Canada, is believed to operate an international network of over 700 shooters. It has been linked to several high-profile crimes, including the assassination of rapper Sidhu Moosewala, threats to Bollywood actor Salman Khan, and alleged connections with pro-Khalistan elements.
