Landslide win for UK’s Labour ends 14 years of Conservative rule

United Kingdom’s general election has been swept by the Labour Party crossing the 326-seat threshold for a working majority in the House of Commons.

Keir Starmer is all set to be Britain’s prime minister with his Centre left Labour Party won a huge majority in a parliamentary election, ending 14 years of often tumultuous Conservative government.

On Friday morning, Keir Starmer delivered a storming victory speech after the party swept the polls, saying that the country “gets its future back after 14 years (of a Conservative Party government)”.

Starmer said, “Change begins now,” adding that having “a mandate like this comes with a great responsibility”.

Rishi Sunak has secured his own parliamentary seat in northern England. Sunak congratulated Keir Starmer for his victory, “The Labour Party has won this general election and I have called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory.”

Earlier, according to the UK election exit polls, the Conservatives were forecast to suffer historic losses, while his Labour Party was projected to win a massive majority in a parliamentary election.

The poll showed Labour would win 410 seats in the 650-seat parliament, ending 14 years of Conservative-led government.

Rishi Sunak’s Conservative party was forecast to only take 131 seats, down from 346 when parliament was dissolved, as voters punish the Conservatives for a cost-of-living crisis and years of instability and in-fighting which has seen five different prime ministers since 2016.

Sunak surprised Westminster and even members of his own party by calling for the election in May, despite the Conservatives trailing Labour by around 20 points in opinion polls.

He had anticipated that the gap would narrow, as typically happens in British elections, but the deficit has remained unchanged, marking a somewhat disastrous campaign.

  1. Nothing will change in UK, only new faces, misery will continue as before. It is difficult to changes ways of govt working anywhere in the world for People themselves do not change and hold selfish & greedy wishes.
People are foolish to expect the new elected govt will solve their problems….. misery only will continue, newly elected will enjoy everything at taxpayers cost……i.e. Rajya Yoga benefits without doing anything.
They will change their bank account balance, country will remain same.
    Cycle repeats every 5 years
