Badlapur rape accused shot dead in police encounter after snatching cop’s gun
In a dramatic turn of events, Akshay Shinde, the prime accused in the notorious Badlapur rape case, was shot dead in what is suspected to be a police encounter in ‘self-defence’. The incident occurred on Monday as Shinde was being transferred by a police escort from Taloja Jail to Badlapur for further investigation into another case against him.
Akshay Shinde is accused of rape of two nursery school girls.
According to reports, the encounter took place as the police vehicle entered Thane Police jurisdiction. It is alleged that Shinde managed to snatch a policeman’s firearm and discharged a round at himself before firing another shot at the police. This prompted a chaotic scene as other officers attempted to regain control.
Another policeman is reported to be injured in the sudden firing, and both have been admitted to a hospital in Kalwe town for treatment.
On August 12-13, Shinde had allegedly sexually assaulted two minor girls, aged three and five, in the Adarsh Vidya Prasarak Sanstha (AVPS) premises that led to a nationwide furore, a huge public protests in Badlapur with a rail and road blockage for over 10 hours.
