India dismissed the OIC’s claims on Islamophobia as Pakistan’s attempt to divert attention from its own problems

India has strongly rejected resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir adopted at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) foreign ministers’ meeting in Baghdad. New Delhi accused Pakistan of orchestrating the references against India and said the grouping has let itself be “misused” for Pakistan’s “bigoted agenda.”

    India’s response

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the references to India in the resolutions are “malicious, biased and false” and were orchestrated by Pakistan. It said the OIC has “no locus standi whatsoever” to comment on matters that are strictly internal to India.

The MEA reiterated that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India, and that politically motivated propaganda can never alter this reality.

    Questions over the OIC’s credibility

The ministry said the OIC’s repeated endorsement of patently malicious propaganda and narratives peddled by Pakistan raises serious questions about its credibility and integrity. India urged the grouping to rethink its approach if it wants to remain credible.

    Progress cited, Islamophobia claims dismissed

The MEA pointed to the progress made in the region since the abrogation of Article 370. It also dismissed the OIC’s other claims, including those on Islamophobia, as attempts by Pakistan to divert attention from its own problems, including its treatment of minorities and its internal challenges.

    A familiar position

India has consistently rejected OIC statements on Jammu and Kashmir as unacceptable interference in its internal affairs. It took the same stand in June, when it dismissed references to India at the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, and again in September, when it rejected a communique from the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir.
