A man wearing a dog mask joined a public hearing in Khandwa to highlight rising concerns over stray dogs and alleged lapses in sterilisation efforts
A man dressed in a dog costume and mask staged an unusual protest at the Khandwa Collectorate in Madhya Pradesh, drawing attention to the city’s stray dog problem.
The protest took place during the weekly Jan Sunwai (public grievance hearing) on Tuesday. The man entered the premises alongside Deepak Rathore, Leader of the Opposition in the Khandwa Municipal Corporation, and appeared before officials in the canine disguise. The unusual demonstration left visitors and officials surprised.
Rathore used the protest to raise concerns over the alleged failure of ongoing measures to control the stray dog population. He claimed that around ₹40 lakh had been spent on sterilisation drives over the past four years, while more than 13,000 dog-bite cases had reportedly been recorded in the city.
He also sought an inquiry into the implementation of the sterilisation programme and alleged irregularities in the expenditure.
The Additional District Magistrate assured the protesters that action would be taken if an inquiry found discrepancies in the programme.
A video of the man wearing the dog mask at the Collectorate has since attracted attention on social media, turning the unconventional protest into a viral talking point.
