‘Halal’ will now send you to jail in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi bans it
In a major crackdown on unlawful practices using ‘Halal Certification‘, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a decisive step against the unauthorized practice of granting Halal certificates to food and cosmetic products.
The Yogi-led government has also banned the sale of Halal-certified products.
The official order reads, “In the interest of public health, production, storing, distribution and sale of halal certified edible items banned in Uttar Pradesh with immediate effect. The manufacturing, storage, distribution, and sale of halal-certified food products are banned with immediate effect.”

“Action will be taken against the concerned person/ firm under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and related rules,” the order read.
The decision came within hours after the state police registered an FIR on a complaint alleging the issuance of “halal certification” for several products by some organizations.
The case has been lodged against Halal India Private Limited, Chennai; Jamiat Ullema Hind Halal Trust, New Delhi; Halal Council of India, Mumbai; and Jamiat Ullema, Mumbai.
The said companies have been involved in unlawful business practices by providing illegitimate Halal certifications for specific products, including vegetarian items such as oil, soap, toothpaste, and honey.
The sales of these products, despite not requiring any certification related to their vegetarian nature, have faced attempts to reduce their market presence due to these fake certifications.
