Will non-BJP ruled states reduce the price of petrol, diesel?

Yesterday evening, the Central government reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by a record Rs.5 and Rs.10 per liter to help bring down rates down from their highest-ever levels.

The excise duty reduction is effective from November 4 when petrol price will come down from the current rate

Soon after the Centre’s declaration Assam reduced the Value-Added-Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs.7 with immediate effect.

After Assam Himachal Pradesh CM reduced the VAT followed by Tripura, Goa, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh.

All the BJP/NDA ruled states reduce VAT on diesel & petrol. The states include Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam, Manipur, Goa, Karnataka, Tripura, Uttarakhand, and Bihar.

Domestic prices of both fuels have touched record highs on the back of a steep rise in crude oil cost. Earlier in the month, Petrol has already breached the Rs.100 per liter mark and above in several cities, whereas, diesel is not far behind.

Assam government reduced VAT by Rs.7. The Bihar government by Rs.1.30 and diesel by Rs.1.90, the Karnataka government by Rs.7.

The Goa government, too, followed suit and introduced an additional reduction of Rs.7 on petrol and Rs.7 on diesel. The Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb, too, announced a cut of Rs.7/liter each for petrol and diesel.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami also announced a reduction of Rs.2/per liter on petrol.

Manipur CM N Biren Singh said that the state will also reduce VAT on petrol and diesel each by Rs.7 per liter with immediate effect.

The Uttar Pradesh government also announced a reduction in VAT on petrol and diesel, which will result in reducing the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs.12 per liter in the state.

BJP has now put non-BJP ruled states in a thick soup as it would hit their pockets deep, Now the question is how many states will reduce the price and how much?

Will the non-BJP ruled states care for their people and reduce the VAT?
