History sheeter Thiruvengadam, involved in Armstrong murder, killed in police encounter near Madhavaram
One of the accused involved in the murder of the Tamil Nadu BSP Chief K Armstrong was killed in an encounter with the police in Chennai, Madhavaram area late last evening, officials have said.
According to police sources, Thiruvengadam was brought to the scene to recover weapons allegedly used in the killing of K Armstrong when he fired at the police with one of the retrieved firearms.
He sustained injuries from the ensuing exchange of gunfire and was promptly transported to the hospital.
Officials confirmed, “Doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival.”
Earlier this month, K Armstrong was fatally attacked by six assailants on motorcycles near his residence in Chennai. The incident occurred while Armstrong was engaged in a discussion with several party members near his home in the Sembium area of the city.
However, the attackers fled the scene after the assault. Despite being rushed to a hospital by his family, Armstrong was pronounced dead.
Thiruvengadam was one of the suspects arrested allegedly for K Armstrong’s murder.
BSP chief Mayawati has demanded a CBI investigation into the attack. “I urge the state government, especially the Chief Minister, to ensure law and order in the state. The weaker sections, in particular, should feel safe. Had the government been serious, the accused would have been arrested. Since that is not the case, we urge the state government to refer the case to the CBI,” she had said.
