Faceless ‘Himalayan Yogi’ in market manipulation case is Anand Subramanian, CBI identifies
In a major crackdown in the NSE probe, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody Anand Subramanian, former Group Operating Officer and advisor to former MD of National Stock Exchange (NSE) Chitra Ramkrishna till March 6.
The CBI has unearthed that Subramanian was the faceless ‘yogi’, who was communicating with Chitra Ramkrishna, former chief of NSE. This is the first arrest in the NSE co-location case registered by it in 2018. Subramanian had served as an advisor to Chitra Ramkrishna, former NSE Chairman. Subramanian was quizzed vigorously by the agency for four days in Chennai
The CBI had arrested Subramanian yesterday night in connection with the NSE co-location scam case. In addition, the former NSE group operating officer was produced virtually before a Delhi court today, according to sources.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in its order passed on 11 February had found that Chitra Ramkrishna was leaking sensitive information of the exchange including financial data with an unknown email id belonging to a certain ‘rigyajursama‘.
The CBI had grilled him in Chennai for four days earlier this week. As per sources, preliminary investigations and confrontation of Subramanian with the emails indicate that either he himself is the “Himalayan Yogi” who received confidential information from the former NSE Chairperson Chitra Ramkrishna.
The CBI said that his custodial interrogation was required to confront him with seized articles and others involved in the case. The court after hearing the contention of the CBI allowed its plea and gave Anand into their custody till March 6.
