Even as the anti-terror operations continued for the second consecutive day inside Sunjuwan military station the total death toll Sunday reached 6 with the recovery of dead bodies of three more jawans along with that of a civilian, father of a deceased soldier.
During the sanitising of residential quarters by the Indian army commandos’ bodies of one more JCO, two jawans and an elderly man, father of a soldier have been recovered, all of whom were killed by the terrorists in the initial stage yesterday.
Meanwhile, in another related development, Indian army commandos neutralised all three heavily armed terrorists inside the military station before launching a final assault to rule out the presence of any other terrorist in the sprawling campus. During the day-long operations, the army conducted sanitisation operations to clear and clean the area. A high-level team of National Investigating Agency (NIA) also visited Sunjuwan military station to take stock of the situation and collect evidence.
Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, who was camping in Jammu since late Saturday night, also supervised the operations before heading for Delhi. General Rawat landed in Jammu late Saturday evening and was briefed by the local commanders about the anti-terror operations to flush out holed up militants in the built-up area.
Lt Col Devendra Anand, Public Relations Officer of Ministry of Defence Sunday said, “In the ongoing operations at Sunjwan military station three terrorists have so far been killed”.
He said the third terrorist was also found wearing army combat dress and was heavily armed similarly to the other two terrorists killed previously. AK-56 rifles, under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), ammunition and grenades have been recovered from them.

So far six fatal casualities have occurred that includes two JCO’s, three jawans and one civilian dependent, all residents of J&K. In addition, 10 people have been injured of which six are women and children including one pregnant lady.
Army doctors worked through the night to save the life of a severely injured pregnant lady with a gunshot wound and through a caesarean section delivered a baby girl.
Both the mother and the baby are stable.
A 14-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the head, however, remains critical. The sanitisation and search operations are continuing.
The deceased soldiers have been identified as Havaldar Habib-Ullah Qureshi, Naik Manzoor Ahmad, Lance Naik Mohd Iqbal and his father.
Two Junior commissioner officers (JCO) were killed in the daring militant strike on Saturday.
Inspector General of Police Dr. S D Singh Jamwal Sunday confirmed, “so far three militants have been neutralised by the elite para commandos of the Indian army in the ongoing gun battle, raging on for over 24 hours since Saturday morning”.
A group of heavily armed militants believed to be a cadre of Jaish-e-Mohammad, the militant outfit had earlier stormed the Sunjuwan Military station in the wee hours of Saturday from the rear side of the military station.
Defence PRO Lt-Col Devendra Anand had confirmed the heavily armed militants were the cadre of Jaish-e-Mohammad. The army had earlier recovered arms and ammunition along with a Jaish-e-Mohammad flag from their belongings.
