Five Army men martyred; the operation still in progress
In the run-up to the G20 Tourism Working group meeting in Srinagar between May 22-24, Pakistan-sponsored terrorists Friday once again ambushed a search party of the Indian Army in which five Indian army jawans were ‘killed in action’ in the Kesri forest area of Kotranka in the frontier Rajouri district.
According to reports, a group of terrorists hiding in the area ambushed one of the search parties of the Indian Army early Friday morning.
Two Army jawans received fatal injuries during a powerful explosion. However, four Army personnel including an officer have been airlifted to the Command hospital in Udhampur. Three soldiers who were critically injured succumbed to their injuries in the command hospital, Udhampur. Meanwhile, additional reinforcements have been rushed to the encounter site to neutralize the terrorists immediately.
According to a statement released by the Army, “Indian Army columns have been conducting relentless intelligence-based operations to flush out a group of terrorists involved in an ambush on an army truck in Tota Gali area of Bhata Dhurian in Jammu region on April 20. Five Indian soldiers had sacrificed their lives in the terror attack.
According to a statement of the Indian Army, ” a joint operation was launched on 03 May 2023, on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists in the Kandi Forest belt in Rajouri Sector. At about 07.30 hours on 05 May 2023, a search team established contact with a group of terrorists well entrenched in a cave. The area is thickly vegetated with rocky and steep cliffs. The terrorists triggered an explosive device in retaliation. The Army team has suffered two fatal casualties with injuries to four more soldiers including an officer”. Later, three soldiers succumbed to their injuries in the command hospital, Udhampur.
Additional teams from the vicinity have been directed to the site of the encounter. The injured personnel have been evacuated to Command Hospital, Udhampur.
Meanwhile, a decision has been taken at the highest level to secure the water bodies around the G20 Summit venues in Kashmir valley with the help of Marine Commandos (MARCOS).
In addition, elite commandos of the National Security Guard (NSG) team will be used for counter fidayeen attack along with Special Operations Group (SOG) and specialized NSG teams for counter drones will be deployed at all venues.
Additional Director General of Police Vijay Kumar said the Marine Commandos (MARCOS) would be stationed in the valley to provide a strong security cover for the water bodies around the summit venues.
During a high-level security review meeting, a special focus on the emerging threat of Vehicle borne IEDs and other modes of potential terror attacks including potential fidayeen attacks, standoff fire & grenade attacks were discussed in detail and countermeasures to counter these terror threats were also discussed.
