PM Modi extended birthday greetings to the Dalai Lama on his 91st birthday, describing his message of peace, compassion and harmony as an inspiration for the world
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended warm birthday wishes to the Dalai Lama on his 91st birthday, describing his enduring message of peace, compassion and harmony as a guiding force for people across the world.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he joined millions of people in wishing the Tibetan spiritual leader good health and a long life.
“I join 1.4 billion Indians in extending our warmest wishes to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his 91st birthday. His message of compassion, peace and harmony has inspired respect and admiration across all faiths. We pray for his continued good health and long life,” PM Modi said.
The Dalai Lama, revered globally as a symbol of non-violence and spiritual leadership, marked his birthday with prayers and celebrations attended by monks, followers and dignitaries at his residence in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.
The Tibetan spiritual leader has lived in India since 1959 after fleeing Tibet following a failed uprising against Chinese rule. Dharamshala has since served as the headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile and the centre of Tibetan Buddhist activities.
Leaders from India and across the world conveyed their greetings to the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, recognising his lifelong commitment to promoting compassion, interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
PM Modi’s message comes amid India’s continued support for preserving Tibetan cultural and spiritual heritage, while maintaining its longstanding tradition of providing refuge to the Tibetan community.
The Dalai Lama remains one of the world’s most respected spiritual figures, with his teachings on peace, kindness and compassion continuing to resonate with millions across the globe.
