PM Modi stresses rule of law and diplomacy to resolve global crises
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphasised that dialogue, diplomacy and adherence to the rule of law are essential for resolving global conflicts, stating that military confrontation alone cannot address complex international disputes. His remarks came amid escalating tensions in West Asia involving the US, Israel and Iran, as well as the continuing war between Russia and Ukraine.
Speaking at a joint press briefing with Finnish President Alexander Stubb in New Delhi, the Prime Minister highlighted the shared approach of India and Finland toward conflict resolution.
“India and Finland, both, believe in the rule of law, dialogue, and diplomacy. We are in agreement that no issue can be resolved through military conflict alone. Be it Ukraine or West Asia, we will continue to support the swift end of conflicts and every effort towards peace,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister also pointed to the need for reforms in global institutions to better address emerging geopolitical challenges and security threats.
“We also agree on this, that reforming global institutions to address the growing global challenges is not only necessary but also urgent. And rooting out terrorism in all its forms is our shared commitment,” PM Modi stressed.
His remarks come as tensions continue to escalate in West Asia following joint US-Israel strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei earlier this week. Iran has since launched retaliatory missile attacks targeting Israel and American military installations across the Gulf region, while the conflict has also drawn in Iran-backed group Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Amid the turbulent global environment, PM Modi underlined the strengthening partnership between India and Europe. Referring to the trade agreement signed with the European Union earlier this year, he said the relationship between the two regions was entering a new phase of cooperation.
“Today, the world is going through a period of instability and uncertainty. Conflict persists in many parts of the world, from Ukraine to West Asia. In such a global environment, India and Europe, two of the world’s major diplomatic powers, are entering a golden era of their relationship. Our growing cooperation is giving new strength to global stability, development, and shared prosperity,” he added.
