PM Modi’s festive message links Diwali’s spirit with Operation Sindoor, India’s fight against injustice, and the nation’s march towards ‘Viksit Bharat’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended Diwali greetings to the nation through a heartfelt letter, in which he invoked the ideals of Shri Ram and the spirit of justice while referring to Operation Sindoor, the military response to the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year.

“India not only upheld righteousness but also avenged injustice during Operation Sindoor,” the Prime Minister wrote, describing the operation — held from May 7 to 10 — as a “living example” of the country’s resolve to stand firmly for dharma and justice.

“This is the second Deepavali after the grand construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya,” he said. “Shri Ram teaches us to uphold righteousness and gives us the courage to fight injustice. We have seen a living example of this during Operation Sindoor.”

The Prime Minister also said this year’s Diwali was “particularly special” as, for the first time, lamps would be lit across districts that had been freed from Naxal and Maoist influence, including remote regions once affected by insurgency.

“In recent times, we have seen many individuals abandoning the path of violence and joining the mainstream of development, expressing faith in the Constitution. This is a major achievement for the nation,” he added.

In his letter, PM Modi also reflected on India’s economic progress and global standing, noting that the country has “emerged as a symbol of both stability and sensitivity amid global crises” and is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy.

Highlighting the government’s economic reforms, he said, “On the first day of Navratri, lower GST rates were implemented. During this ‘GST Bachat Utsav,’ citizens are saving thousands of crores of rupees.”

Calling for collective responsibility, he urged citizens to contribute to the nation’s development through daily habits — promoting cleanliness, health, and local products.

“Let us adopt Swadeshi and proudly say, ‘This is Swadeshi!’ Let us respect all languages, maintain cleanliness, prioritize health, reduce oil use in food, and embrace Yoga,” he wrote. “All these efforts will move us rapidly towards a Viksit Bharat.”

The Prime Minister concluded his letter with a message of harmony and positivity:
Deepavali teaches us that when one lamp lights another, its light does not diminish but grows further. With that spirit, let us light lamps of harmony, cooperation, and positivity around us this Diwali.”
