    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday shared candid moments from his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during his visit to Rome, posting photographs from a dinner meeting and a late-night visit to the iconic Colosseum.

    PM Modi, who arrived in Italy as part of the final leg of his five-nation tour, shared the images on social media platform X and described the interaction as an opportunity to exchange views on a range of key issues.

    “Upon landing in Rome, had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni over dinner followed by a visit to the iconic Colosseum. We exchanged perspectives on a wide range of subjects. Looking forward to our talks today, where we will continue the conversation on how to boost the India-Italy friendship,” PM Modi wrote.

    Leaders visit iconic Colosseum

    The photographs posted online showed the two leaders travelling together in a car and walking through the illuminated Colosseum in central Rome.

    Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also shared a photograph from the meeting and welcomed PM Modi warmly on social media.

    Welcome to Rome, my friend!” she wrote while posting a picture of the two leaders standing in front of the historic amphitheatre.

    The images quickly gained attention online, with many users highlighting the warm chemistry between the two leaders and the symbolism of the Colosseum visit.

    Focus on strengthening India-Italy ties

    PM Modi’s visit comes at a time when India and Italy are expanding cooperation under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029.

    The two countries have been working to deepen ties in areas including:

    • Defence and security cooperation
    • Clean energy
    • Innovation and technology
    • Science and research
    • People-to-people exchanges

    According to official figures, bilateral trade between India and Italy reached USD 16.77 billion in 2025, while cumulative Italian foreign direct investment in India stood at USD 3.66 billion between April 2000 and September 2025.

    Final stop in five-nation tour

    Italy marks the final destination of PM Modi’s five-nation diplomatic tour.

    Before arriving in Rome, the Prime Minister visited Norway, Sweden, Netherlands and
    United Arab Emirates.

    The tour focused on strengthening bilateral ties, trade cooperation and strategic partnerships with key global partners.
