PM Modi’s initiatives represent a significant step towards bridging the development gap for India’s tribal population
On Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of development projects worth over Rs.83,000 crore aimed at uplifting tribal communities in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh. The event took place at Vinoba Bhave University, where Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to tribal welfare.
A key highlight was the launch of the ‘Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan,’ a substantial initiative valued at Rs.79,156 crore. This program aims to integrate around 63,000 tribal villages across 2,740 blocks in 549 districts, directly benefiting over 5 crore tribal individuals.
The initiative includes plans for constructing 2 million homes for tribal families, developing 25,000 km of rural roads and bridges to improve connectivity, and ensuring access to clean drinking water, gas, and electricity for every household. Additionally, it aims to establish 100 tribal market centers, mobile health units, ashrams, and skill development centers to enhance education and healthcare access while promoting agriculture and preserving tribal culture.
Moreover, PM Modi inaugurated the PM Jan Man Yojana, launched 40 Eklavya schools in Jharkhand, and laid the foundation for 25 more, aimed at providing quality education to tribal children in remote areas.
Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram welcomed the Prime Minister, presenting him with a shawl and a Sohrai painting, reflecting Jharkhand’s rich Sarna tribal culture.
These initiatives mark a significant step towards narrowing the development gap for India’s tribal population, with a strong focus on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and cultural preservation.
