Chadha’s first strike: Targets Kejriwal’s ‘lavish lifestyle’

Freshly aligned with the BJP, Raghav Chadha on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Arvind Kejriwal, backing the ruling party’s “Sheesh Mahal 2” allegations and calling for serious introspection within the Aam Aadmi Party.

Chadha, who recently merged with the BJP along with several other MPs, said the controversy around Kejriwal’s residence had significantly damaged the party’s image.

“Sheesh Mahal Part Two has come in Delhi. Some pictures of it have surfaced. If there was one major reason for the Aam Aadmi Party’s loss in the Delhi elections,” Chadha said during a media interaction.

    ‘Lavish lifestyle’ charge gains traction

The BJP has renewed its attack on Kejriwal, alleging that his newly allotted bungalow in Delhi reflects excessive spending and a shift away from the party’s original “aam aadmi” image.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma claimed that Kejriwal had constructed a “Sheesh Mahal 2” at Lodhi Estate, accusing him of relying on “private money” to create high-end amenities.

“After he was forced out of Sheesh Mahal by Dhurandhar voters of Delhi, he shifted to Punjab, where he grabbed a bungalow, and now he has prepared Sheesh Mahal 2 at Lodhi Estate,” Verma said.

    From anti-VIP politics to controversy

The “Sheesh Mahal” charge has been a recurring political weapon used by the BJP against Kejriwal, dating back to the renovation of his official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road.

Critics argue that the allegations strike at the core of AAP’s anti-VIP, clean politics narrative—once its strongest political selling point.

Chadha’s remarks now add weight to those criticisms, marking one of the strongest internal rebukes yet from a former senior AAP leader.

    AAP rejects claims as ‘fake’

The Aam Aadmi Party has dismissed the allegations outright, calling the images circulated by the BJP “fake, false, and baseless.”

Senior AAP leader Atishi said the visuals were sourced from the internet to malign Kejriwal.

“What times these have become for them – when they can’t find anything against Kejriwal ji, they’re making false claims based on images picked up from the internet. Parvesh Verma ji: You could’ve used AI for this instead; theft doesn’t get caught that quickly,” she said in a post on X.

    Political battle intensifies

The renewed attack signals an escalation in the political battle between the BJP and AAP, with Chadha’s defection and criticism adding a new dimension to the ongoing war of words.
