Raipur lawyer Mohammad Faizan Khan arrested over Rs.50 lakh extortion call
A man has been arrested for allegedly issuing a death threat to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and demanding a ransom of Rs.50 lakh, Mumbai police confirmed today. The suspect, Mohammad Faizan Khan, a lawyer based in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, was apprehended from his residence after failing to comply with a police summons.
Faizan Khan, 30, is accused of making the threat call to the 59-year-old actor last week, using a mobile phone registered in his name. Authorities said the lawyer initially claimed his phone had been stolen and filed a police report on November 2. However, further investigation revealed the call had originated from his number, leading to his arrest.
The police have registered a case against Khan under sections 308(4) (extortion involving threats of death or serious injury) and 351(3)(4) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS).
The threat comes nearly a year after Shah Rukh Khan was previously targeted, shortly after the success of his blockbuster films Pathaan and Jawan. Following the earlier threat, Mumbai Police had ramped up Khan’s security, assigning him a ‘Y+‘ level protection, which includes six armed personnel stationed around the clock.
Earlier this week, actor Salman Khan also received a death threat, allegedly linked to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
In a separate incident, a 32-year-old man was arrested in Karnataka after threatening Khan, following an earlier demand from the jailed gangster, who demanded an apology from the actor for his involvement in the killing of a blackbuck, a sacred animal in the Bishnoi community.
