Jyotiraditya Scindia hits out at CPIM MP S Venkatesan for fake claims

On Wednesday Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia slammed CPIM MP S Venkatesan for misrepresenting facts on the Madurai airport. Scindia said Venkatesan’s fake claims are nothing but an attempt to divide the north-south.

The CPIM MP from Tamil Nadu on Wednesday claimed that Scindia had said that the demand for the airport in Madurai in Tamil Nadu was not justified since north Indian states have only one international airport. He tweeted, “Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia says the demand for the airport in Madurai and fourth for TN is not justified since North Indian states have only one international airport. The GST paid by TN last year is higher than those collectively paid by 21 states and UTs.”

He further added, “We are right and justified in demanding not just 4 but even 14 for our state.”

Jyotiraditya Scindia slammed his claims. He tweeted, “Shocked & disappointed by the gross misrepresentation of facts here. Firstly, some States in both North & South India (like UP & Kerala) have more than one international airport. Hence, the statement quoted by the MP is baseless.”

He said, “Secondly, the decision to grant international status to an existing airport is dependent on several factors, including passenger demand & proximity to other international airports in the State. The Govt. is open to proposals for new airports in any part of the country. In fact, we aim at multiplying the current number of airports in India.”

He further tweeted, “Thirdly, in fact, international flights are currently operational at the Madurai airport, so the MP’s insistence over according to international status to the airport is incomprehensible. Also, contrary to the allegation, I had offered @MoCA_GoI’s support in increasing the number of international flights for Madurai by requesting Indian carriers to fly abroad from the city.”
