Mohammed Zubair arrested for hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity
Self-proclaimed fact-checker and co-founder of Alt News, Mohammed Zubair was arrested by Delhi Police for hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity.
According to reports, Zubair was arrested at Delhi Police’s IFSO (Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations) special cell station, which handles cases related to cybercrime.
Police officials said that Zubair had joined the investigation, in this case, registered at the Special Cell police station, and was arrested “after having sufficient evidence on record”. He is still being questioned and police will present him before a magistrate tomorrow to seek further custody, it is learnt.
The arrest has been made under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 295 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).
Earlier FIR was registered against Zubair at the Khairabad Police Station for calling Hindu seers “hate mongers“. Zubair was booked under sections of the IPC and the Information Technology Act.
Zubair had filed a writ petition challenging the FIR filed against him on June 1 for using derogatory language against Mahant Bajrang Muni Udasin, Rashtriya Sanrakshak of Rashtriya Hindu Sher Sena along with Yati Narsinghanand and Swami Anand Swaroop. The Allahabad High Court had dismissed his petition.
