
Injured shifted to hospital, numbers yet to be confirmed
Several people were injured after unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled a crude bomb in Murshidabad on Thursday, as voting for the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections was underway.
The incident took place in the Nowda area, sparking panic among voters and residents amid polling activity.
“They were abusing us… We don’t bother anyone,” one of the injured persons told PTI, describing the chaos following the explosion.
Panic during voting, security tightened
According to initial reports, the blast occurred close to a polling area, disrupting voting temporarily and creating tension in the locality. Several injured individuals were rushed to nearby medical facilities, though officials are yet to confirm the exact number and severity of injuries.
Security forces quickly reached the spot and launched a search operation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Voting continues amid tension
Despite the incident, polling continued in the area under heightened security. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further disruptions.
The first phase of voting in the state is being held across multiple constituencies, with security measures already in place due to the high-stakes nature of the elections.
