Sikh teacher forcibly converted and married in Pakistan
A delegation of Sikhs is set to meet the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday and hand over a representation with regard to the kidnapping and forced conversion of a Sikh teacher, Deena Kaur, in Pakistan. During the meeting, the team is also expected to raise the issue of the infringement of human rights of minorities in Pakistan.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa informed about their meeting in a tweet, “Leading a delegation of Sikhs to meet Ministry of External Affairs, South Block at 12 PM today & talk on kidnapping & forced conversion of Sikh teacher Deena Kaur in Pakistan. We are worried abt infringement of human rights of minorities in Pak & discussing same with MEA India.”

Earlier, it was reported that a young female teacher from the Sikh community was allegedly kidnapped on Saturday, and on the next day, the family was informed about the wedding and her conversion into Islam the next day causing deep resentment among the Sikh community. Despite approaching the police, the family’s complaint was not registered.
This is certainly not the first time when minor communities of Pakistan are facing the atrocities of the majority religion. There have been many incidences of forceful marriage and conversion to Islam of young girls. According to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), in the first half of 2020, as many as 55 Sikh girls have been kidnapped and forcefully married in the last nine months in Pakistan.
