Srinagar grenade attack: At least one dozen civilians injured
One of the busiest streets of Srinagar near the Tourist Reception center was hit by a grenade attack in which at least one dozen civilians received injuries on Sunday.
This is the second incident of terrorist violence in the capital city in the last 24 hours.
A top commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, Usman Lashkari, was eliminated by the joint team of security forces in the eight-hour-long encounter in the Khanyar area on Saturday.
The last attack in Srinagar was reported in April 2022.
According to reports, the grenade was thrown from a flyover near the Radio Kashmir crossing, targeting shoppers at the Sunday market. All those injured were local Kashmiris.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack and said there can be no justification for targeting innocent civilians.
“The last few days have been dominated by headlines of attacks and encounters in parts of the Valley. Today’s news of a grenade attack on innocent shoppers at the ‘Sunday market’ in Srinagar is deeply disturbing. There can be no justification for targeting innocent civilians. The security apparatus must do everything possible to end this spurt of attacks at the earliest so that people can go about their lives without any fear,” the Chief Minister said in a tweet.
