In a deadly encounter with a group of terrorists in Handwara town of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, two senior officers including a colonel rank officer, two jawans and a Sub Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir police attained martyrdom while two terrorists holed up inside a house were eliminated in the eight-hour-long fierce gunfight late Saturday night.
According to ground reports, “the operation was launched in Chanjmulla area of Handwara on Saturday afternoon after receiving inputs that a group of terrorists were taking local civilians as hostages”.
Moving swiftly, a joint operation was launched in the area to evacuate the civilians from the house.
According to an army spokesman, “a team of Army officers, two jawans accompanied by Sub-Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir police entered the house to evacuate the family members”.
However, during the process, the team was subjected to a heavy volume of fire by the terrorists.
In the ensuing firefight, two terrorists were eliminated and the team of five security personnel comprising of two Army officers, two Army soldiers and one Jammu and Kashmir Police Sub Inspector attained martyrdom. Before sacrificing their lives, the team of officers had managed to evacuate the family members safely from the targeted house.
Since the beginning of the holy month of Ramzan, anti-terrorist operations were going on in different parts of Kashmir valley to flush out terrorists. So far over one dozen terrorists have been eliminated in these operations in Kashmir valley.

Of late, our anti-terrorist units have been finishin off terrorists at the expense of their own lives. Their laudable victoryis have come with a heavy price. A lot more needs to be done to protect our warriors from guns and bombs of terrorists.
Let us not mention as holy month. Let us mention only the month home. No holy tag please.They don’t deserve.
