Zelenskyy seeks Modi’s help

Days after addressing US Congress, the war hit Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and announced a peace formula to end the conflict with Russia. India has all along called for dialogue and diplomacy to end violence with Modi urging one of one talks between the Ukraine President and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I had a phone call with PM Modi and wished him a successful G20 presidency. It was on this platform that I announced the peace formula and now I count on India’s participation in its implementation. I also thanked for humanitarian aid and support in the UN,” the Ukrainian President tweeted.

Earlier, Modi had urged Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in September that “today’s era is not an era of war”. Putin said he understood Delhi’s concerns about the conflict in Ukraine and wanted it to end “as soon as possible”.

Meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in the Uzbekistan city of Samarkand, Modi told Putin, “I know that today’s era is not an era of war, and I have spoken to you on the phone about this.” He said democracy, diplomacy, and dialogue have kept the world together.

Modi is in touch with both Presidents since the military action commenced in late February and urged both leaders to resolve their differences through talks.

  1. The American and NATO war is being fought in the name and at the direct physical cost of Ukraine. Exhausting old ammunition is now complete, in the process, it was hoped that the Russians could be been given a bloody nose, but instead the shortage of energy and inflation started hitting both the US and EU putting strain on the regimes there. For all the public bravado and big talk during his visit to US, appears Zelenesky has been asked to go home and make peace. Escalation leading to Russian Red Lines, is something the US and NATO not willing to cross. All the sanctions and energy price caps have only hurt US and NATO besides opening other avenues of trade settlements to the detriment of US, UK and EU’s financial interests. Winter threats are real with energy costs and shortages. India having taken a position only in her own interest may be best placed to help end the hostilities.
