Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez will undertake a working visit to India from June 3 to June 7, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Tuesday.

Rodriguez was initially scheduled to visit India to participate in the International Big Cats Alliance Summit on June 1. However, the summit was later deferred, leading to a revised schedule for her visit.

Addressing the weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Rodriguez will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising several senior ministers from the Venezuelan government.

The delegation is expected to include the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Finance, Science and Technology, Communication and Information, and Transportation.

Jaiswal highlighted Rodriguez’s long-standing engagement with India, noting that she has visited the country multiple times in different official capacities.

“Acting President Rodriguez has visited India several times in the past as Foreign Minister and Vice President of Venezuela. She visited in 2015 as Foreign Minister and subsequently in 2019, 2023, 2024 and 2025 as Vice President. This will be her sixth visit to India,” he said.

During her stay, Rodriguez is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The talks are expected to cover the full spectrum of India-Venezuela relations and explore opportunities for expanding cooperation across several sectors.

According to the MEA, key areas of discussion will include energy, trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation and renewable energy. The Venezuelan delegation is also expected to visit several locations as part of the official programme.

India remains an important partner for Venezuela, particularly in the energy sector. Indian public sector undertakings have made significant investments in Venezuela’s oil and energy industry, and both sides are expected to discuss ways to further strengthen economic engagement.

India and Venezuela share warm diplomatic ties and often hold similar positions on major international political and economic issues. The two countries celebrated 65 years of diplomatic relations in 2024 and have maintained resident embassies in New Delhi and Caracas for more than four decades.
