Soon after Yogi Adityanath came to power in Uttar Pradesh, history-sheeters are surrendering in police stations.

Just a few days back, about 13 history-sheeters surrendered at Chilkana police station in the Saharanpur district. Now, eight more reached Gagalheri police station with folded hands, vowing not to commit crimes in the future.

Four liquor smugglers in the Deoband police station said that they will not commit this crime again.

In the Shamli district, 18 accused of cow slaughter surrendered themselves at Thana Bhawan and Garhipukhata police stations.

Many criminals walked into the police stations holding placards with a message written on them – ‘I am surrendering, please don’t encounter.’

Earlier, a video went viral on the social media, in which a man accused of abduction and carrying of a bounty of Rs.25,000, turned up at a police station in Gonda with a placard hung around his neck and a message scribbled on it – ‘I am surrendering, please don’t open fire at me.’ The criminal Gautam Singh and two other accomplices are accused of the abduction of a chicken-feed trader and demanding a ransom of Rs.20 lakh for his release.

Uttar Pradesh witnessed the lowest crime rate in 2020 in heinous crimes like rape, murder, and theft in the last seven years since 2013. The latest data was released by the National Crime Record Rape cases dipped from 3,050 in 2013 to 2,769 in 2020, registering a decline of almost 10%.

Similarly, the number of murders came down from 5,047 in 2013 to 3,779 — a 25% reduction, murders came down from 5,047 in 2013 to 3,779 — a 25% reduction.
