Yogi counters Priyanka Gandhi’s ‘Palestine’ message
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has criticized Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for carrying a bag featuring the word ‘Palestine’ to the Parliament, emphasizing her continued support for Palestinians amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Yogi’s remarks came after the bag sparked a political debate, with BJP members reacting sharply to the move.
Yogi, in his address, pointed out that while Uttar Pradesh is sending thousands of its youth to Israel for skill development and work opportunities, Priyanka Gandhi’s act of displaying support for Palestine in Parliament was contrary to the state’s positive ties with Israel.
“More than 5,600 youths from Uttar Pradesh have been sent to Israel, where they receive free accommodation, meals, and guaranteed security. This reflects the productive relationship we have with Israel,” Yogi stated. He added that Israel acknowledged the skills of UP’s youth, further strengthening ties between the two regions.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Anurag Thakur slammed Priyanka Gandhi for her symbolic gesture, accusing her of making a fashion statement rather than focusing on issues such as atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.
In response, Priyanka Gandhi defended her actions, calling it an example of patriarchy to dictate what a woman should wear. “Who is going to decide what clothes I am going to wear?” she questioned.
