Bangladesh border tops infiltration arrest

No cases of infiltration have been reported along the India–China border since 2014, the Centre informed Parliament, even as security forces arrested 23,926 infiltrators along India’s borders with Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan during the same period.

According to official data tabled in the Lok Sabha, the India–Bangladesh border recorded the highest number of apprehensions, followed by the borders with Myanmar, Pakistan and Nepal–Bhutan. In contrast, the northern frontier with China has remained free of reported infiltration cases over the past decade.

The data was shared by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in a written reply to questions raised by Trinamool Congress MPs Jagdish Chandra Barma Basunia and Sharmila Sarkar.

As per the figures, 20,806 infiltrators were arrested between 2014 and 2024, while 3,120 arrests were made between January and November 2025 across India’s international borders, excluding China.

A border-wise breakup shows that 18,851 infiltrators were apprehended along the India–Bangladesh border, followed by 1,165 arrests on the India–Myanmar border, 556 along the India–Pakistan border, and 234 on the India–Nepal–Bhutan borders.

Month-wise data for 2025 (up to November) indicates continued infiltration attempts, particularly along the India–Bangladesh border (2,556 arrests). This was followed by 437 arrests on the India–Myanmar border, 49 on the India–Pakistan border, and 78 on the India–Nepal–Bhutan borders.

The government reiterated that no infiltrators were apprehended along the India–China border even in 2025, underscoring a distinct security situation along India’s northern frontier compared to its western and eastern borders.
