eMigrate portal and mobile app for safe overseas travel launched
In a significant step towards enhancing the safety and well-being of its citizens traveling abroad, India launched the revamped e-Migrate portal and a mobile app on Monday. This initiative aims to facilitate safe and legal overseas travel for Indian workers, ensuring better mobility while prioritizing their protection.
At the launch event, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the ease of living and promoting people-centric governance.
Jaishankar said, “Last year, during the Ministry of External Affairs’ campaign to raise awareness about safe and legal mobility channels, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a commemorative postal stamp with the motto ‘Surakshit Jayen, Prashikshit Jayen’ – ‘Go safe and go well-trained.’ Today’s event reflects that sentiment.”
The new eMigrate portal V2.0 represents a crucial advancement in creating “safer, more transparent, and inclusive mobility” for Indian workers abroad. This initiative aligns with Goal 10 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which promotes orderly and responsible migration.
Jaishankar described the revamped platform as “more than just a digital tool.” He referred to it as “a beacon of hope, a symbol of our commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of our workers in foreign lands.” He acknowledged that while India’s migrant workers play a vital role in the economy and enhance the country’s global reputation, they often face vulnerabilities while overseas. The new platform is designed to address these challenges head-on.
“Our missions, especially in the Gulf, have dedicated labor attaches to handle grievances. The revamped portal includes a 24/7 multilingual helpline for urgent issues and a feedback mechanism for redressal,” he added.
Furthermore, the updated e-Migrate portal V2.0 is integrated with DigiLocker, allowing emigrants to securely submit and store important documents such as passports and employment contracts in a paperless format, enhancing both convenience and security.
