AK-47 rifles, pistols seized near India–Pakistan border in Punjab
Security agencies recovered a major cache of sophisticated weapons and ammunition near the India–Pakistan border in Punjab, reinforcing concerns over cross-border attempts to destabilise the state.
Punjab’s Pathankot Police, acting on specific intelligence inputs and in coordination with central intelligence agencies, seized the arms from the border area of Narot Jaimal Singh, close to the international boundary with Pakistan.
The recovered consignment included three AK-47 rifles, five AK magazines, two pistols — one Turkish-made and one Chinese-made — along with two pistol magazines and 98 live cartridges, officials said.
DIG Border Range Sandeep Goyal said preliminary intelligence suggests the arms were pushed across the border from Pakistan with the intent to disrupt peace in Punjab. The consignment is believed to have been sent by Harwinder Singh Rinda, a criminal-turned-terrorist currently operating from Pakistani soil.
According to officials, Rinda is suspected to be working with the backing of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and has been involved in coordinating terror and criminal activities targeting Punjab.
Following the recovery, security forces intensified search operations in the area and launched multiple raids to identify and arrest individuals linked to the arms smuggling network.
Officials said police and central agencies are working in close coordination to dismantle these cross-border networks and prevent future threats to internal security.
