Investigators recover weapons and explosives as security agencies probe wider cross-border network
In a major counter-terrorism operation, the Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested nine individuals allegedly linked to a network believed to be operating under the direction of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and elements associated with the Mumbai underworld.
According to investigators, the accused were allegedly part of a larger conspiracy involving planned attacks on critical infrastructure, security personnel and other sensitive locations across multiple Indian cities.
The arrests followed an extensive intelligence-led operation conducted by the Special Cell after weeks of surveillance and monitoring.
Weapons and explosives seized
Police officials said the operation led to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms, ammunition and explosive materials from the accused.
Among the items seized were grenades and sophisticated weapons that investigators believe could have been used to carry out planned attacks. Forensic experts are now examining the recovered material to determine its origin and operational capabilities.
Authorities said the seizure may have averted a significant security threat.
Underworld links under investigation
Investigators claim the suspects maintained links with individuals connected to the Mumbai underworld, which allegedly helped facilitate the activities of the network.
The probe is now focused on uncovering recruitment channels, funding sources and logistical support structures that enabled the alleged module to function.
Security agencies are also scrutinising financial transactions, digital communications and travel records to identify additional operatives and handlers connected to the network.
Accused from multiple states
Officials said the arrested individuals hail from Delhi, Mumbai and Punjab, while some foreign nationals are also reportedly among those detained.
Preliminary findings suggest the suspects had allegedly been tasked with conducting reconnaissance and identifying strategic government facilities and other sensitive targets.
Investigators are working to determine the specific role played by each accused and whether sleeper cells linked to the network remain active elsewhere in the country.
Multi-agency probe launched
Security agencies have launched a wider investigation to establish the full extent of the alleged ISI-underworld nexus and determine whether the module had connections with other terror networks operating across India.
Officials described the operation as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle cross-border terror infrastructure and disrupt potential attacks before they could be executed.
Following the arrests, security measures have reportedly been enhanced at several sensitive locations, while intelligence agencies continue to monitor possible threats and associated networks.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities expecting further arrests and revelations as interrogation of the accused progresses.
