Staff evacuated, security teams carry out checks; police begin probe
A bomb threat email sent to a DRDO lab in Bengaluru caused panic on Monday, but was later found to be a hoax.
The email was sent to the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a lab of the Defence Research and Development Organisation. As soon as the alert was received, the entire premises was evacuated.
Police, along with bomb disposal and fire teams, carried out a detailed search of the area. No explosives were found.
Email warned of blast and kidnapping
Officials said the email, written in Tamil, claimed that bombs had been planted inside the facility and would explode around 1:30 pm.
It also mentioned a threat to kidnap the grandson of M. K. Stalin, identified as Inbanidhi Stalin.
Investigation underway
Police have now started an investigation to trace who sent the email. Security has also been tightened at key defence locations in the city as a precaution.
Officials said the message appears to have been sent only to create panic, but they are checking all angles.
